Meet Shannon

Welcome! My name is Shannon Wiseley. I am a licensed mental health counselor specializing in maternal mental health issues. I am passionate about helping women who are struggling with depression and anxiety during pregnancy or during the postpartum period. I also work with women who have suffered traumatic birth experiences and are struggling emotionally from that event. I often work closely with the women's partner and family to provide education and understanding and to develop the mother's support system. Having a supportive network of family and friends is crucial during this time. I also work with couples who are dealing with the emotional effects of infertility or have lost a baby through miscarriage or stillbirth.

I have received my professional training and certification through Postpartum Support International and work closely with the local PSI coordinators who offer free peer support groups for perinatal women. I have been working as a counselor for the past 14 years and have worked in the mental health field since 2005 holding positions within a variety of settings and working with various age groups and issues.

My passion for maternal mental health began after my own experience with postpartum anxiety that struck me after the birth of my first child. I did not realize at the time what was happening to me because it did not "look" like depression. I thought what I was experiencing were just "normal" thoughts and feelings that all first-time mothers had. It wasn't until much later that I realized what I felt was not normal. It is my mission to provide information and education to women and healthcare professionals about this common but misunderstood and underdiagnosed issue. I can often be found giving presentations to obstetricians, midwives, pediatricians, and the general public as well. With greater awareness, more women can receive the help they desperately need.

I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, and a sister. I love yoga, nature, good food, and spending time with family & friends.
